Between January 16th and 18th will be held at the Universidad de Concepción the EXPO-UDT, fair organized by the Technological Development Unit (UDT), which will present a set of technological developments that are under commercial implementation by companies and new entrepreneurs.
The exhibition will have the attendance of eight entrepreneurs and seven companies that have developed R&D projects together with UDT. For example, the company Ecoplásticos Ltda., which produces biodegradable compounds and whose manufacture is made through an extrusion process using renewable raw materials. These thermoplastic materials are mixed with natural fibers and additives, to form biodegradable compounds with applications in disposable utensils such as plates, spoons and flowerpots, among others.

Another company is Paneles Arauco S.A., with which UDT has developed a technology for the extraction of polyphenols present in pine bark. The technological package includes the conceptual and basic engineering of the first industrial plant of pine bark extract in the world. The natural polyphenols obtained from this process are of particular interest to the plywood panel industry, as they allow the total or partial replacement of phenol, oil product, in adhesive resins. The new natural product provides similar mechanical properties to the panels; however, its cost and environmental impacts are lower.

The fair will be held at the Universidad de Concepción, in the hallway leading to System Engineering at the side of Plaza del Estudiante, and will be open between 9 am and 6 pm.
