From November 4 to 7, Concepción will host the 13th edition of the Ibero-American Congress on Pulp and Paper Research (CIADICYP), an event that, over the last 20 years, has established itself as a benchmark in the pulp and paper industry, lignocellulosic materials and biorefineries. This year, under the theme “Building bridges between technology and sustainability”, the congress will explore the latest advances in bioeconomy, forest biomaterials, biorefinery and sustainability trends.

The Technological Development Unit (UDT) of the Universidad de Concepción will be represented by our outstanding researchers, who will present their latest studies and contribute to the scientific dialogue on the valorization of lignocellulosic materials and technological innovation for a sustainable future.

Organized by the Faculty of Engineering of the University of Concepción, the Department of Chemical Engineering and its Forest Products Laboratory, CIADICYP 2024 will feature sessions dedicated to cutting-edge topics and plenaries by renowned experts in the field.

Oral Presentations

Tuesday, November 5. Session 2: Paper, Pulp and Fiber-Based Materials:

  • Dr. Danilo Escobar-Avello: “Biorefinery of vine shoot residues: extraction of phenolic compounds for the development of bioproducts.”

Thursday, November 7. Session 8: Innovative Technologies for Timber and Non-Timber Resources:

  • Dr. Cecilia Fuentealba: “Industrial hemp: sustainable non-wood sources for the development of new materials.”

Poster Presentations

Tuesday, November 5. Valorization of wastes and side streams from lignocellulosic biomass conversion processes:

  • Tomás Oñate: “Alkaline extraction of eucalyptus globulus bark: a natural and sustainable solution for wood preservation.”
  • Dr. Victor Ferrer: “Obtaining activated carbons from olive oil industry residues: laboratory and pilot plant tests.”

Wednesday, November 6. Cellulose and nanocellulose: Production, characterization, modification, new processes and new materials:

  • Johairo Nuñez: “Recyclable, bio-based and biodegradable material for packaging manufacturing.”
  • Dr. Victor Ferrer: “Comparative evaluation and optimization of extraction methods of phenolic compounds from Eucalyptus globulus bark.”

CIADICYP 2024 will represent an invaluable opportunity to strengthen collaborations, create new scientific networks and share knowledge with young researchers and students. This event not only seeks to showcase advances in research and technology, but also to define strategies to build a more sustainable society.

Concepción, a dynamic city with a rich academic life, will be the perfect setting for this high-level meeting, reaffirming its role as a center of scientific and technological innovation in Chile and Latin America. We are excited about the role that UDT will play in this important event and committed to contribute to the development of technologies that promote a more sustainable society.
