A seminar on “Waste Recovery in the Paper Industry” will be held next May 23, 2013, which is aimed at knowing the current status of waste management by the industry and reveal the scope of the “Solid waste recovery technologies for the paper industry” project executed by UDT supported by Innova Chile from Corfo.

In 17 months of work, 5 technologies were technically and economically evaluated allowing recovering sludge and ashes. Better-evaluated technologies were: a fertilizer developed based on ashes and sludge, and the manufacture of particleboards based on pine chips and sludge. Sludge and ashes showed a significant contribution in soil nutrients, such as phosphorus, potassium and calcium, among others; boards made from chips and sludge were found to have a higher tensile strength and a lower swelling percentage than boards made only from chips.

The event will take place on May 23, 2013, between 9:00 am and 12:30 am at the Auditorium Jaime Baeza located in the EmpreUdeC Building of the Universidad de Concepción.
