Description: This equipment measures the tearing strength of paper according to the Elmendorf method, which is the classic method for measuring this characteristic. The paper sample is held with the instrument’s clamps and an initial cut is made with a knife operated by a lever, then the pendulum is released and the paper is torn. The tearing energy is measured by the change of position of the pendulum, that is, the loss of energy of the pendulum is a measure of the tearing work performed. Tearing strength is obtained by dividing the tearing energy by the distance torn in the paper.
