On November 13, Dr. Cecilia Fuentealba, researcher at the Technological Development Unit (UDT) of the Universidad de Concepción, was invited by Dr. Mauricio Pradena Miquel, professor at the Windesheim University of Applied Sciences in Zwolle, The Netherlands, to share her experience and knowledge in the development of bio-based materials with a focus on the circular economy.
During her presentation, Dr. Fuentealba presented the research and development activities carried out by UDT and its participation with the National Wood Center (CENAMAD). She also highlighted her work on thermal insulation panels made from eucalyptus bark, an example of how bio-based materials can evolve from applied science to industrial-scale production.
The event was attended by researchers from the Windesheim applied research centers “Energietransitie” (Energy Transition) and “Netwerken in een Circulaire Economie” (Networks in Circular Economy), together with students interested in sustainable materials. The talk aroused great interest, with numerous questions about the development of the panels, underlining the importance of looking for low-cost raw materials and sustainable alternatives in the construction sector.
On November 14, Dr. Fuentealba met with students interested in learning more about the development of these panels and made key contacts to strengthen future collaborations. This exchange is part of an active relationship between Dr. Pradena and UDT, which includes participation in projects, joint applications and student exchanges between Chile and the Netherlands.
This activity reaffirms UDT’s commitment to the promotion of the circular economy and technology transfer, highlighting its ability to generate impact in the international community.
