UDT has developed a pyrolytic process to transform waste polyolefins (polyethylene and polypropylene) into paraffin waxes as the main product. The process was scaled up at pilot level to a continuous plant with a capacity of 20 kg of plastic per hour (TRL 6).
The waxes can be used in three main applications:
- hydrophobic emulsions for wood panels (TRL 7),
- as a lubricating agent for wood-plastic composites (TRL 4) and (iii) in thermal storage systems (TRL 6).
- in thermal storage systems (TRL 4).
