The document reports on the main milestones and institutional records in the field of entrepreneurship and technology transfer in the last two years.

The Directorate of Development and Innovation presented the publication of the second edition of the ‘Innovation Report of the Universidad de Concepción’, a document that includes the milestones of the period 2022-2023, the technological trends and the portfolio of solutions developed from the knowledge that arises in the university to generate impact on society.

Among its contents, the document provides details on the route taken by R&D+i+e initiatives from the University’s classrooms and laboratories to their concrete impact on various areas of society, figures on entrepreneurship projects and intellectual property protection and licensing, as well as a complete portfolio of technologies developed in the various faculties and campuses of the UdeC.

The report includes details of four outstanding cases of knowledge transfer: the application of quantum technologies, the digitaliza25tion of copper smelting processes, the rescue of the wine heritage of the commune of Florida and the use of a system for participation in the integrated management of water basins.

In this regard, the director of Development and Innovation of the UdeC, Dr. Jorge Carpinelli Pavisich stressed that “this report is a testimony and reflection that allows us to visualize the institutional commitment to excellence and the forefront in technological developments, the transfer of these results, along with the creation and support of companies, startups and deep-techs, which intensively use new knowledge and incorporate technological components in their services or products.”

“The University of Concepción is a place of privilege for being flooded with new ideas, science and technology, from here we trace this route of innovation, through which, through the work of specialized units in project support, technology transfer, protection of intellectual property and entrepreneurship, we accompany the R+D+i+e initiatives of our university community, which today allow us to share with pride and satisfaction these results that we invite you to know,” added the executive.

The collection of the information required for the preparation of this document was carried out mainly from the Office of Transfer and Licensing (OTL UdeC), whose executive director, Andrea Catalán Lobos stressed that “the work of the OTL UdeC lies in recording the results of R&D generated in the laboratories by the research teams, which allows to know and manage these intellectual assets in order to bring them to the market and society, and thus realize innovation. In this document, much of this new knowledge generated at UdeC has been classified according to the technological trends identified in the McKinsey study “Technology Trends Outlook 2022”.

Meanwhile, from the Technological Business Platform IncubaUdeC (IU), its executive director Beatriz Millán Jara detailed that “we invite the regional and national community to know what today the Universidad de Concepción is promoting in terms of technological entrepreneurship”.

“We have a business incubator that has a great positioning at international and national level, according to the benchmarking that Corfo performs with all the incubators of university origin and they will be able to learn about the ventures served, some success stories and the impact we are generating with the ecosystem of innovation and entrepreneurship, both in jobs generated, as well as in public funding that we have supported and, of course, sales and social impact that our entrepreneurs are generating,” added Millán.

“And, finally, through our network of mentors in conjunction with the university’s Alumni Network, the actions we took to have an active community of more than 100 mentors who are today supporting IncubaUdeC’s ventures,” he concluded.

The ‘Memoria de Innovación UdeC 2022-2023’ is available on the websites of OTL UdeC, IncubaUdeC and from the VRID UdeC website, for downloading in PDF and alternatively for reading on digital paper.
