The award ceremony of the contest “Biorefineries: Energy and Materials of the Future” took place on November 22, which aimed to bring youth closer to science, sustainable development and complete use of natural resources.
Investigators, students and parents from the different winning educational institutions, as well as representatives from the three organizing entities attended the ceremony, which was held at UDT.
To begin the activity, Rafael González, investigator from the Bioenergy Area of UDT, gave a talk about the scope of biorefineries and their current state.
Next, the selected drawings were awarded with an honorable mention by judges, to then name the winners. First Place: Catalina Orellana from the Escuela Particular Las Mariposas, Chillán; Second Place: Paula Carrillo from the Escuela E-765 Colico Sur de Curanilahue, and Third Place: Miguel Oses also from the Escuela E-765 Colico Sur de Curanilahue.
Then, the winning students and the rest of the competitors and attendees were invited to meet the different laboratories and pilot plants within UDT. During this visit, they could see first hand the work that is being done in the production of biomaterials, biofuels and chemicals from biomass.
The Technological Development Unit (UDT) from the Universidad de Concepción together with the Interactive Center of Science, Arts and Technology (CICAT) and the Explora Program of CONICYT organized this contest.
